If It's Not Your Body, Then It's Not Your Decision

Did you know that minor females have to give notice to their parents in order to have an abortion? Did you know that tissue examinations, information pamphlets, and/or ultrasounds may be required before you could even consider having an abortion, depending on which state you live in?

Look at Abortion Law Development: A Brief Overview and you'll be amazed at some of the restrictions placed on women simply in order to preserve pro-life beliefs. I understand that I personally fall hard on the Pro-Choice side, but I'd thought my belief was fairly common these days - one's body is one's own choice. No one else has the right to decide what you can and cannot do with it - and yet we have, with something as simple as the right to have a child or not.

Quite frankly, I'm horrified. Abortion clinics are not spoken of, and in order to get a free ultrasounds, one must got to a Crisis Pregnancy Clinic, which does not refer women to abortion clinics, ever. More, women are constantly faced with not only the difficult challenge to abort the fetus, but also see pro-life activists shouting such things as "it's gonna hurt, Mommy" and "I want to see your face; please don't kill me." Many of these people also sing religious music and read quotes from the Bible.

Are you people serious?

This woman has made a difficult choice primarily motivated by the well-being of herself and the potential child. She has found the courage to take the step she finds most suitable for herself. This selfish desire for everyone to follow one's own way of thinking shows an immaturity within the minds of the people. Our country is not a theocracy, nor is it a monarchy with one person finalizing all decisions. We found that sort of country to be stifling, unethical, and undesirable - that's why we went to war with England. Now we have several men and women stating that they believe all babies should be saved. Have these people considered what these babies may be brought into?

The mother may be a teenager, only sixteen, with no job and with parents that simply can't afford a grandchild.

The mother may already have one or two children and a job that hardly pays the bills as it is. One more mouth to feed would be too much for the mother to handle - she may very well lose her house if she has this kid.

The mother may be about to enter a job, one with better pay and better hours, which will finally let her pay off her debts, but her pregnancy is putting that job out of her reach.

The mother may not have any children - or even other dependents such as disabled parents - but she's just barely making it by, trapped on the poverty line, and doesn't have the time or the money to properly raise a kid.

Don't tell me God will find a way - the MOTHER is the one who's facing the struggles day in and day out. The mother is the one carrying the fetus, the one who would have to birth the child with or without health care, and she's the one who would have to spend an average of around $125,000 to $250,000 in order to get that kid to age eighteen.

That's right - a baby will have cost the parents from $125,000 to $250,000 by age eighteen.

The struggles these women are facing are numerous enough without people demanding a conformity to their way of believing. The entire point of America was a freedom of choice. I'm not saying change your opinion - just keep it to yourself. If you don't believe in abortion, then don't abort your baby.

But if it's not your body, then you don't have the right to decide anything about it.
